NEDC to reconstruct Damaturu–Gujba–Biu road

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has unveiled plans to reconstruct the 128-kilometre Damaturu–Gujba–Biu road.

The Managing Director of the Commission, Mr Muhammad Goni Alkali, disclosed this to newsmen during the flag-off of the reconstruction and asphalt overlay of the Damaturu–Gujba–Buni Yadi–Magza Road.

Alkali described the road as highly strategic, serving as a vital corridor linking Yobe and Borno states.

He noted that upon completion, the 128-kilometre road will enhance regional reintegration, improve security coordination, and promote trade and agricultural activities between the two states.

The NEDC boss said the project further reinforces ongoing efforts to rebuild infrastructure, restore livelihoods, and stimulate economic growth across Yobe State and the wider North-East region.

“We are committed to rebuilding this road. We have commenced the first phase, which covers the Damaturu–Gujba–Buni Yadi–Magza stretch.

“We are also committed to executing the second phase of the project, which covers the remaining portion from Magza to Biu, until the entire road is fully rehabilitated.

“I want to assure the people of Yobe and Borno states that the NEDC will ensure the successful completion of this road without any hitch,” he said.

According to him, the Commission has installed over 6,000 solar streetlights across the 17 local government areas of Yobe State.

He further stated that, in a bid to address water scarcity in the state, the NEDC has constructed over 150 boreholes across Yobe.

Earlier, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, who performed the flag-off of the first phase of the project, said the reconstruction aligns with his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development.

He reaffirmed that the Yobe State Government under his leadership remains committed to infrastructural development and post-insurgency economic recovery efforts across the state.
