The federal government has lifted the ban earlier placed on interstate movement as part of measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19. With this development, people can now travel from one state to another.

One important thing we must however have at the back of our minds is that the COVID-19 pandemic is still very much with us. The lifting of the ban is therefore, not an excuse for people to become complacent.

There is every need for people to take personal responsibility as the second phase of the ease of lockdown takes effect.

Transporters must adhere to safety precautions at motor parks while loading passengers.

Washing points and hand sanitisers should be provided at the various motor parks for passengers.

Transporters should adhere to the stipulated number of passengers they are expected to carry per trip to give room for physical/social distancing.

Passengers must on their part, take personal responsibility by putting on their face masks and observe all the stipulated safety protocols to curtail spread of COVID-19.

Those with symptoms similar with COVID-19 should self isolate and seek medical attention rather than embarking on interstate travels, thus spreading the virus to others.

I appeal to the various state governments to ensure close monitoring at the motor parks to ensure compliance with safety protocols.

Besides, state governments could also assist in providing hand sanitisers and hand washing items at major motor parks as part of their contributions in tackling the pandemic.
