Last Saturday there was violence during the election of Ijaw National Council (INC), therefore we, the elders of Ijaw nationality, are calling for proper reconciliation among conflicting factions in order to experience sustained peace in the Niger Delta region.

Hoodlums numbering over 1000 had stormed Ijaw house in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state where the election was holding and carted away materials meant for some positions in the executive council of the sociocultural organization, thereby stalling the election halfway.

We urge interested factions to consider the interest of peace in Ijaw land and sheath their swords for the interest of peace and togetherness of Ijaw people.

Last Saturday’s election has not only portrayed Ijaw people in bad light but also brought ridicule on the people, we therefore call on the youths not to allow themselves to be use by desperate people.

INC election was very peaceful until hoodlums invaded the venue and take away the ballot materials away, Ijaw nation at this particular time need a focused leadership, who has the character and charisma to pursue the cause of Ijaws.

We need peace in Ijaw land and the entire Niger Delta, that is why we call on all faction to come together, so that we can fight the cause of Ijaw with common front.

Bayelsa state government has also condemned the invasion of the INC election venue, and we also call on security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.
