An audio clip purportedly released by bandits threatening to sack more villages in Rafi and other LGAs in Niger State has created fear among the farming communities of the areas.
Residents told City & Crime that they could not sleep well since the audio went viral.
In the 14-minute audio clip shared with our reporter, the bandits asked the villages to come for negotiation within three days or face severe attacks.
The speaker, in Hausa language, threatened that farming activities in Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna State; and Gidigori, Garin-Zara, Pandogari, among other villages in Rafi LGA of Niger State, would not be allowed to farm this rainy season unless an agreement was reached.
A Resident of Shiroro LGA, Shu’aibu Awaisu Wana, said, “The recent audio recording captures the chilling vow of the bandits, outlining their plans to wreak havoc on vulnerable communities, starting with military formations and targeting civilians, specifically farmers. The gravity of this situation demands urgent attention and proactive measures from the government.
“The audio has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of the affected communities. In the audio, the bandits boldly declare their intention to attack military formations and target vulnerable individuals, particularly farmers.”
Wana lamented that, “It is disheartening to note that during the previous administration, the response to such heartless acts of violence was often reactive and insufficient, with little done until after devastating damage had already been inflicted. This pattern must not be repeated.”
Meanwhile, residents of the threatened communities have called on the state and federal governments to take immediate measures to avert the planned attacks and allow farmers to go about their farming activities.
