In his opening remark, the Zonal Coordinator, NEMA North-west, Alhaji Musa Ilallah, said in the light of experience of 2012 flood disaster that devastated the country, there was need to assist communities prone to floods and those living on the banks of our rivers to have plans of evacuation to higher grounds within a stipulated time frame.
He said the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), identified early warning system (EWS) among 5-key priority areas countries should focus on, adding that there was a need for paradigm shift for communities from looking forward to getting aid materials to building resilience against natural and human induced disasters.
