The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has identified 12 local government areas in Kogi State as flooding disaster hotspots.

It is, therefore, calling on all stakeholders to work together to avert loss of lives and property from such disasters.

Speaking at the 2021 flood sensitisation campaign workshop in the state, Mr Justin Uwazuruonye, NEMA’s Head of Abuja Operations, said, “In the recent past, the frequency of occurrence of flood disaster and level of damage to livelihoods and property have been on the increase.

“That was why NEMA and SEMA deemed it very necessary to continuously engage the people; sensitise and educate them to be cautious of actions or inactions aiding the obvious change in climate, which is a big threat to human existence in this 21st Century.”

He recalled that NIMET and NIHSA provided seasonal climate predictions and annual flood outlooks which showed “that nine to 12 LGAs are flooding disaster hotspots in the state.”
