The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a fresh flood alert on Lagos State, with a warning that 18 out of the 50 local governments and local government development areas in the state are at the risk of heavy flooding over the next two months.

The agency’s Territorial Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, in an exclusive chat with our correspondent on Tuesday, advised the state government to intensify work on the clearing of drainages and canals, saying houses around such areas might be washed away by flood.

He identified LGs and LCDAs that fall under the “highly probable flood-risk” range as Ibeju Lekki, Mushin, Ikorodu and Lagos Mainland, while those in the “probable flood-risk” are Lagos Island, Alimosho, Amuwo Odofin, Ikeja, Eti- Osa, Ojo, Oshodi-Isolo, Agege, Ifako Ijaye, Badagry, Surulere, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Apapa, Kosofe and Epe.

Farinloye disclosed that NEMA had been stockpiling humanitarian relief materials that would last, at least, one month for a projected number of people in any situation.
