NEMA urges Kano, Jigawa residents to desert flood prone areas

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kano operations office has appealed to the residents of flood prone areas in Kano and Jigawa states to evacuate the areas over imminent flood disaster.

A statement from the agency, urged residents in the two sister states to embark on routine clearing of drainages in their respective domains in order to avoid a repetition of what happened in Jibia, Katsina state recently.

The Head of Operations, Kano office, Malam Nura Abdullahi, according to the statement, also warned residents in both states to avoid building and dumping of refuse on water ways, saying such practices had been responsible for many flood incidences in many parts of the country.

He emphasized the need for strict compliance to town planning regulations and due regards to environmental sanitation and safer hygienic practices, stressing that “disaster management is everyone’s business and we must all play our roles in creating resilient communities.”
