The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has advised residents of Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states against blocking drains and waterways to avoid flooding.
The NEMA Head of Benin Operations Office in charge of Edo, Bayelsa and Delta, Dahiru Yusuf, who gave the advice while speaking with journalists in Benin, said it became necessary as the nation was going towards the peak of the rainy season.

Yusuf noted that blocking of water channels such as drains, gutters and natural waterways was the main cause of flash floods.
