The Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has scheduled its national convention for February 28, 2026, as it rolls out a nationwide membership revalidation and registration exercise targeting 10 million new and returning members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during the inauguration of the National Steering Committee for membership revalidation and new registration at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

According to the party’s timetable, the convention will be preceded by a series of congresses: ward congresses on January 13, 2026; local government congresses on January 17; state congresses on January 24; and zonal congresses on January 31.

The nationwide exercise, tagged “Labour Party Connect: 10 Million Nigerians,” commenced on December 17 and will run across all wards, local government areas, and states until January 20, 2026.

Speaking via Zoom, Senator Nenadi Usman, the interim national chairman, described the programme as a strategic effort to reposition and strengthen the party for upcoming challenges.

“Most of the disputes that rocked the party have been resolved by the courts, while a few remain pending. With this launch and the approved timetable, I am confident we will not only recover lost ground but emerge stronger, more united, and better prepared,” Usman said.

Also speaking, the steering committee chairman and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, described the 10 million membership drive as a national call to action, aimed at strengthening democracy and amplifying citizens’ voices.
