Nentawe visits Kano’s lone NDC Senator amid defection rumour

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, visited Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, the lone Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senator in Kano State, at his residence in Abuja, on Wednesday night.
According to the Senator’s Media Aide, Umar Saminu Mai-Adashi, the meeting was cordial and constructive, with both leaders exchanging views on issues of national importance.
“Discussions focused on Nigeria’s political landscape and ways of strengthening democratic engagement and national development,” Mai Adashi posted on his verified Facebook page.
The visit has fueled speculation about Senator Hanga’s next political move, especially coming at a time when he expressed reservations about what he called his ill treatment in the NDC.
Once a staunch ally of former governor and NDC Vice Presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and a prominent figure in the Kwankwasiyya movement, Hanga has in recent days expressed dissatisfaction with his treatment in the party.
He complained that he was excluded from the party’s consensus candidate lists, a development that sidelined him from the senatorial race.
APC leaders have intensified efforts to woo Hanga, framing Kwankwaso’s decisions as a betrayal of loyal associates.
Earlier on Tuesday, a powerful delegation led by APC Vice Chairman in Kano, Salisu Maje Ahmad Gwangwazo, visited the Senator and courted him to their party.
Tue party, though did not promise him its Senatorial ticket, however promised to treat him “fairly”.
The ruling party is keen to consolidate its hold on Kano following Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to APC, a move Hanga has recently publicly praised.
While Senator Hanga has yet to formally announce his defection, Wednesday’s meeting with the APC chairman is widely seen as a significant signal of possible alignment.
His current seat of Kano Central has already been given to Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, while the Deputy Governorship slot earlier speculated to be reserved for him has been given to Senator Kwankwaso’s biological son, Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso.
