The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has sensitized no fewer than 70 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on export financing opportunities.
The event, held in Kano on Tuesday, brought together participants from across the North-West region.
According to the NEPC north-west Regional Coordinator, Hajiya Amina Abdulmalik, the workshop aimed to introduce exporters to intervention windows for funding, provide guidance on trade reorientation, and highlight strategies for growth in Nigeria’s non-oil export sector.
She said the training was necessary because many SMEs face challenges in accessing finance when trying to export their products.
“Whenever our SMEs are trying to export, they usually face issue with financing. Most of them don’t know where they can access it. There are several windows available, but they are not conversant with them. This workshop is part of our effort to make them aware of where they can get finance to support their export products,” she explained.
The Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and Persons with Special Needs, Amina Abdullahi Sani, commended NEPC for its continuous efforts in supporting SMEs.
Represented by Nafi Muhammad Yakasai from the Ministry, the Commissioner said the program was particularly important for women entrepreneurs who contribute significantly to agriculture and trade but often face financing challenges.
“Our MSEs and MSMEs contribute greatly to income-generating activities, but yet they are hindered from exporting more of their products to the global market,” she added.
