The Head of Programme, Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), Duke Benjamin has disclosed that the programme would expand its support to the manufacturing sector.

This includes the establishment of additional networks, training and certifications on energy management for energy managers.

Benjamin spoke at the 4th quarter meetings for the three Energy Efficiency Networks (EEN) moderated by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in Lagos.

NESP had supported the establishment of three EEN in September 2020, a platform aimed at developing the technical capacity of energy managers to independently carry out energy audits in their production facilities.

The meetings were organized within the framework of NESP, a technical assistance programme co-funded by the EU and the German Government and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power.

Benjamin said, “So far, participating companies of the EENs have achieved significant improvements in energy use, including reductions in specific energy cost CO2 emissions.”

Commenting on his experience in the networks, General Manager, Dangote Cement, Sunday Adondua, stated that ‘participating in the EEN has enabled the company to redirect its focus towards more systematic ways of improving performance to increase profitability”.
