NESREA seals 3 factories in Ogun for environmental violations

The factories were supposed to have obtained their permit and environmental audit before the operation but did not.

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency has sealed off three factories in Ogun  State for illegal operations and violation of environmental laws of Nigeria.

The Assistant Director, NESREA Headquarters, Gloria  Oboh, disclosed this in Abeokuta after the operation.

Oboh, who visited some of the industries during the operation in the company of the Ogun State coordinator, NESREA, Aliu Kehinde, shut down three facilities in Sango-Ota and Agbara in the Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state.

He explained that Plenco industry, Sango-Ota, Strongpack limited, Agbara and Cometstar Manufacturing limited, Agbara were sealed off for violating environmental statutory laws of the country.

He said NESREA is saddled with the responsibility of enforcing all environmental laws, guidelines, policies, standards, and regulations, to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for Nigerians.

He added that the agency also has the responsibility of enforcing compliance with provisions of international agreements, protocols, conventions, and treaties on the environment.

According to him, the industries were supposed to have obtained their permit and environmental audit before the operation but did not.

He pointed out that NESREA took the decision to seal off the companies as a last resort, after every effort to dialogue with them failed; and they refused to respond to several warnings and advisory letters from the agency.
