Ambassador Gu who hosted dignitaries to a reception in Abuja Tuesday to herald his assumption of duties after taking over from his predecessor, Mr Deng Boqing noted similarities between Nigeria and China and the challenges both countries face.
He said despite Nigeria’s economic take-off in recent years as the largest economy in Africa with the largest population, it still faces daunting challenges in infrastructure development, underemployment and poverty while China as the biggest developing country in population and size and one of the leading economies of the world is still ranked 100th in the UN Development Index.
The new envoy said despite geographical distance and sincere brotherhood both nations would bridge the gap and come together in their common effort to create a better future for later generations.
“I will do my best to maintain and further enhance the good working and personal relations that my predecessor established with you”, he said.
Gu described himself as a half African, saying the moment he set feet on Nigeria, he was fascinated by the Abuja landscape and the enthusiasm of the Nigerian people with the conviction that Africa is full of hope and dynamics.
