Commissioner in the Ministry for New Cities Development in Cross River State, Barr. George Abang Ekpungu has disclosed that the government of Prof Ben Ayade will build new cities across the three senatorial districts.
Speaking with journalists, he said that the action is based on need to reposition and take the state to an enviable height.
He said, “The road map for the execution of some of the projects has been drawn.”
Ekpungu said that Ayade’s government specifically created the ministry to create new urban centres and infrastructure.
The commissioner hoped that the new cities would impact and transform the lives of people so that the state continues to attract investors.
The commissioner named the three new cities to be built as: Calasvegas for Southern senatorial district; Centicost in the Central; and Kintela in the Northern Senatorial district of the state.
On the proposed 260km Super High Way from the southern to the northern part of the state, Ekpungu said, “The de-bushing has almost been completed. And when this is done, it means about 28 percent of the work is done.”
He said with just the de-bushing of the super highway, the value of land along some of these communities which were hitherto considered as remote has started to appreciate adding that investors have also started to show interest and willingness to invest along the proposed super highway.
