The mobile eco- system in Nigeria has received a boost with the unveiling of *931# short code which allows telecoms subscribers to share airtime among friends and family across all networks.
The initiative powered by Credit Switch is to boost the interoperability between various platforms for credit transfer.
The Managing Director of Credit Switch, Mr. Tayo Adigun said the idea behind 931 code was borne out of interest to giving solutions and making life easy for mobile phone users.
According to him, the code acclaimed as the next level product coming out of Africa, the 931 cross network credit sharing is the first of its kind in the world.
The service which is currently available on Globalcom and Airtel Adigun noted would motivate techie start-ups and encourage investments in mobile app development.
He said the code allows users to share credit from their network provider to other networks, adding that the firm is in talk with  Etisalat and MTN to open their networks for the service as subscribers can only receive airtime on the duo for now via the 931 sharing code but cannot send out credit.
Adigun said, “The idea that you can’t share your credit except you are on the same operator platform has become very boring and even frustrating. For instance, you have two phones, with two different GSM operators SIM cards and you have more than enough credit on a particular one, instead of buying more credit, you can always take out of the other that has more than enough.”
