A new football club, Star Light Football Club, has been unveiled in Abuja with the aim of nurturing talented players to stardom.

Speaking with sportswriters during the unveiling of the club at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Dr Ademola Aare, said the club is a subsidiary of Star Light International Sports Academy and Consultancy Services Limited.

He said the academy has affiliations with sporting organisations in China and Japan.

Aare, a former Director, Grassroots Sports Development, Federal Minister of Youth and Sports, also said the players were in Benin Republic recently where they showcased their talents with scouts from Barcelona and other top foreign clubs present to watch them play.

“The vision is to give opportunities to the younger ones who are interested in sports.

“The idea is, once you are very good, you have opportunities to leave this country for professional football abroad.

“We are not for league matches. We are not looking for trophies. All we are doing is to nurture the younger ones to stardom,” he said.

He said the emphasis of the Abuja-based unisex academy is on women as he said Nigerian women have always been doing better than men in sports.

Aare disclosed that the football team is starting with 25 players who were picked from all parts of the country.

One of the players in the team, Alex Oyewole, said he is excited about the opportunity of studying and developing his skills in football at the same time.
