The new Emir of Kano, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, now ‘Muhammad Sanusi II’ finally entered his palace yesterday. He left Kano State Government House where he had been living since Sunday, shortly after he led thousands of Kano people to Friday prayer. Weekly Trust observed that the Emir entered the palace following tradition which saw a newly created entrance for him, at about 4:25pm.
In the Emir’s Friday sermon, the monarch quoted one of the first Khalifas in Islam, who said in his own first sermon that he was not chosen because he was the best. “I am chosen to be your leader not because I am the best or most educated among you. Whenever you see me wrong, please direct me to the right direction,” he said.
The Emir prayed for his late predecessor Alhaji Ado Bayero, peace in the country and advocated for patience among people in Kano.
Thousands of people marched from Government House to the Emir’s palace, chanting in Hausa: “We’re in support, may God Almighty guide and protect you.”
The Federal Government has been reported as having ordered police not to allow anyone gain entry into the palace, which is why the new Emir spent five days at the official residence of the governor, until yesterday. 
The Federal Government also extended the sanctions by withdrawing more than half of security personnel at the Government House. However, vigilante groups, Hisbah officials and policemen were among thousands who led the new Emir into his palace.
