Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the sports administrator said contrary to what was proposed to the government during his time as director of sports, the stadium boasts of only one facility which is the football field.
He said the moment he left the state to carry out a national assignment during the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the initial plan was completely discarded by those who handled the project.
Kofar Soro said the initial plan was to have a sports complex that would accommodate other sports facilities like hostels, multi-purpose indoor sports hall, training pitches among others.
He said it is unfortunate that after sinking billions into the project, the state can only boast of a synthetic football pitch and defective multi-purpose hall which cannot get approval to host any international event.
The former Director said the moment he noticed the anomalies, he complained to the governor in writing through his Chief of Staff but he did not get any response.
“The new stadium called by a strange name, Karakanda is incomplete. Call it beautiful nonsense and you won’t be wrong. The initial plan was to have a complete sports arena that would provide wide range of sports facilities like indoor sports hall, training pitches, hostels, and facilities for other games like volleyball, basketball, hockey among others,” he said.
