Animal Care Services Konsult Nigeria limited is one of the largest companies at the poultry exhibition. The company brought in some new technologies in the area of animal nutrition from Germany, Holland and the United States. Apart from series of automated cages, it brought in new technologies in the treatment of livestock diseases.
Mentophin is a new product from Germany. It is a drug that treats respiratory infection or congestion in birds. “The drug has the capacity to melt whatever the congestion is; it will dissolve it and leave the birds healthy,” Stewatt James has said. They also brought in from USA, a lot of herbal products that do not have toxic or residue problems.
Salmet, an innovative equipment company based in Germany, was also on hand to show Nigerians the latest technologies it has in stock. Dr Idowu Ashanuga, MD Agric Supply Limited, the representative of salmet in West Africa, stressed that what the company is showcasing was quite innovative because they take their potential clients from concepts level to design, planning, execution and then delivery.
According to Idowu, they are supplying fully-automated machines: Automatic Egg Collector, Manure Collection System and Manure Processing to a farm in Abuja. “That is one area where nobody has actually been playing well in the poultry industry in Nigeria.”
Idowu said they want to capture the waste sector of the poultry industry and turn it into a revenue generating input section for the poultry farmers. The company is installing the first organic fertiliser equipment in Nigeria for a client in Otta .
One of the innovations they also brought in the show is the broiler cage. They have installed the first in West Africa in Illesa, he claimed. “We are currently undertaking a research in a customer’s farm in Delta state, looking at the possibility of producing maintained gas from poultry waste to use in powering generators. “Because of power problems we are thinking of bringing this innovation so that farmers can generate gas from their waste and use it to power their generators and also use it to power their heating system. These are innovations that we are working on and are getting good results from our trails test. It will be available to farmers by the end of the year,” he said.
