A source very close to the newspaper revealed that the decision to suspend the publication was arrived at during a recent management meeting.

It was gathered that some of the reasons behind the closure of the newspaper may not be unconnected with the financial challenges the company has been facing for almost a year now. The publishers, according to the source, suspended the publication with a view to reach out to some potential investors.

Only last July the Lagos-based newspaper suspended its daily publication. 234NEXT, which first debuted as a Sunday newspaper, is headed by the Pulitzer-award winning journalist and former Foreign Editor of the New York Newsday, Dele Olojede. Its exclusive stories, coupled with design, made it a newspaper to beat.

The paper made a grand entry into the Nigerian newsstands at the peak of controversy surrounding the health condition of late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, with a vision of “redefining journalism practice in Nigeria.”
