Basic education, Universal Basic Education (sustainable development goal 4) is a very important level in giving our children good education and thus needs to be given greater attention.

Education is widely reputed to be an instrument of social reforms, economic growth and political awareness and development of a society. Primary education is therefore seen as foundation of all education and should be regarded as fundamental to success in life. It is at this level that education basic is espoused in a Nigeria.

It is the stage at which children of 6 to 11 age bracket are enrolled to school. The policy of universal basic education comprises of three major aspects, which are, universal, which connotes the universal access to education and then the basic which connotes the very foundation of education, the foundation at every other levels of education is built upon. It is the very heart of education. In view of the above prompted the federal government of Nigeria to introduce the universal basic education. foundation of education, the foundation at every other levels of education is built upon. It is the very heart of education in the country.

However, since after independence in Nigeria, successive governments have given priority to the education of Nigerian citizens. A glance at the Nigerian education policies reveal that primary education was a top agenda of the successive governments since independence, the first introduction of primary education came about 1955 in the Western part of Nigeria as the Universal Primary Education, the policy insisted on free and compulsory education at this level.

These are highly commendable efforts of the Nigerian governments in providing basic education for its citizens.

In spite of government efforts of making education openly accessible to the Nigerian child through universal basic education policy, there are certain fundamental issues which the government failed to give adequate attention thereby causing a silent setback for the nations educational system. This fundamental issue is the problem of adequate electricity. Good electricity has an immense impact on an improved basic education for the Nigerian child.

In the modern day Nigeria that is striving to keep abreast with latest technologies, electricity is of immense importance in enhancing education.

There are a lot of factors that can improve education that depend on the availability of adequate electricity.

First, a child needs a very conducive atmosphere for his or her cognitive ability to function well, conducive atmosphere here connotes the availability of cooling systems (fans or AC) and light to enable the child study at all times.

Second is not unconnected with the 21st century emerging technologies like the computers, projectors among others which have immensely paved way in the global educational systems. All these do not work without steady electricity supply which informed the need for the federal government of Nigeria to provide lasting electricity supply for primary schools in order to enhance learning process in our schools.
