Making the call in Lagos on Friday, the Amalgamation of Nigeria Female Football Coaches, organisers of the annual competition, said their exclusion from the NFA’s calendar was affecting the championship.

Norbert Onwuzurike, Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the decision of the NFA to start the female league during the same period of the competition was not in the interest of female football.

Onwuzurike said the crop of Nigerian female players in the national teams were spotted during the All-Stars championship.

He blamed the low turnout of players and spectators in the ongoing competition on the national league which was holding simultaneously.

The LOC Secretary said the competition had always held in January since its inception.

He decried the situation where they were not recognised by the body in charge of football in the country.

NAN reports that the teams participating in the competition were named after various countries.

Rotimi Omilana, Coach of Team Brazil, told NAN that the coaches catered for the welfare of their players from their meagre resources.

“We are thankful to the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Lagos State Sports Council for their support but we need that of the NFA,’’ Omilana said.

He said he hoped the NFA would include the championship in its calendar to ensure maximum participation by many players.

Kehinde Jacobs, Team Ghana Coach, said NFA’s refusal to support the competition was scaring foreign clubs and scouts away.

“Since our own NFA cannot recognise the championship, how would foreign clubs come here to scout for players?’’ he said. (NAN)
