Mr. Mohammed in a chat with Fever Pitch said what has happened is an illegality that shouldn’t be condoned, adding that reverting to the status quo remains Nigeria’s best option of lifting the ban that has been placed on Nigeria by FIFA.
“These people were duly elected for God’s sake and there was a case in court. So, why the hurry to do away with Maigari and his team? It gives a feeling that there is something fishy,” the former minister said.
The former Yobe State military administrator also opened up on how Obasanjo almost forced him to sack the then board and members of the Nigeria Football Association and he refused. “Obasanjo met me and said ‘Mohammed, those NFA people must go. I don’t like what they are doing’. And I said, “With all due respect, sir, I can’t sack duly elected representatives and fortunately the Vice-President was there and he backed me up,” he concluded.
NFF Extra-Ordinary Congress on July 5, in Abuja unanimously endorsed the dissolution of the Aminu Maigari-led NFF Executive Committee and immediate termination of the employment of all management staff for various offences. The Congress also endorsed the dissolution of the boards of the Nigeria National League, Nigeria Women League and the Nigeria Nationwide League.
The Vice Chairmen have taken over the running of the Leagues and are reporting to the Acting General Secretary of NFF at the moment.
