Speaking during the competition, NGA Director General Mr. Abdullahi Muku said that the competition is organized to discover, nurture and make some untapped creative geniuses in the society self-reliant.
He said that through competitions such as this, NGA engages human minds especially those of our youths in a more creative, self-rewarding and revenue-generating venture.
The DG noted that the positive responses in terms of the increase in entries received from all over Nigeria is an affirmation that the competition has come to stay.
 Muku said, “More than 250 entries were received in 2008, 500 in 2009, 800 in 2012 and over 1000 entries this year.
“There are three qualifying stages in the competition: the preliminary screening at state level; the short-listing of five entries for each geo-political zone of the country and thirdly, the final round of qualification where a panel of jurors unanimously selects winners for each category.
“These categories of winners are consequently invited to Abuja for the Award ceremony where prizes and trophies are presented to them. It is my belief that the impact of this competition will go a long way in achieving a more economically fruitful and egalitarian society.”
In the professional category, Clement Nwafor, Visual Art for National Growth came first while in the Tertiary category Umenweke Anthony, Harnessing Nigerian Resources, Fibre glass emerged first.
In the secondary and primary categories, Okwara Blessing, Technological Innovation through Art and Godswill Ugwuegbu, Technological Innovation through visual arts came first respectively.
The theme of this year’s competition was “Visual Art as a tool for human capital development’ and was well attended by art lovers in Nigeria and beyond.
All winners were presented with award plaques and cash.
