One of her missions for 2010 is to, through the Nigerian Visual Arts Tour (NIVATOUR), create an international market for Nigerian artists and an avenue for building new partnerships with the organised private sector.

Through NIVATOUR, the NGA is proposing a tour of the world with the best of modern Nigerian visual art. The tour is billed to take off from Egypt in July/August 2010.

An NGA delegation, lead by the Acting Director General, Mr. Abdullahi Muku, paid visits to Cairo and Alexandria in Egypt to secure venues for the exhibition.

Mr. Muku informed that, “There will be a practical workshop which is intended to engage the artists (Nigerian and Egyptian) that are participating in the exhibition. The aim is to create a platform for exchange of cultural and artistic ideas as a sort of synergy between Egyptian and Nigerian artists.”

After meetings with officials of the Egyptian Fine Art sector, it was agreed that the exhibition will hold at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina before moving on to Cairo. According to the officials, it is important for the exhibition to hold first in Alexandria because it was Egypt’s first capital and is an older city than Cairo in terms of historical documentation. Also, Alexander the Great conquered the world there, through knowledge as well as the fact that the library was built as far back as 331B.C and is described as the first scientific and intellectual Mecca encompassing the sciences and arts.
