The Association of Virtuous Women in Pilgrimage and Tourism of Nigeria (AVWOPAT) has called on government to provide an enabling environment for women to perform better across the country and beyond.
The founder and chief executive officer of the group, Lady Chy Swimmer, said with the over 60% of women population in the country, there should be more than 35% affirmative action to give them a sense of belonging.
She regretted that despite the robust ideas of women in moving the economy of the country forward, they have not been given the desired opportunity to do that.
Schwimmer, who stated this after the meeting for Board of Directors (BoDs) held, yesterday, in Abuja, said it was high time issues of women were taken more seriously considering their contributions to nation building.
She said the gap in women participation in government over the years had grown wider, hence the need to create opportunities for them.
“Women are over 60% in the country and they deserve to be given equal opportunities to participate in issues that will add value to the economy,” she said.
