The call was made by the territorial manager, North-East, Society for Family Health, a Non-Governmental Organisation, Hajiya Binta Suleiman at a one-day workshop organised for potential stakeholders in the control of HIV/AIDS, held at the society’s office in Kano.

Binta said HIV was a gigantic monster that a single hand could not fight, saying there was need for community leaders, religious leaders, community based organisations, the media and the general public to join hand and form a synergy to fight it.

She noted that despite the large number of people affected in the state with HIV/AIDS, the effort made by the state government to reduce the spread was negligible.

Binta further disclosed that the Society for Family Health was working “to reduce HIV/AIDS incidence and prevalence, provide equitable prevention, care, treatment and support; and mitigate its impact among women, children, other vulnerable groups and the general population in Nigeria by 2015.”  

She therefore called for the mobilisation of adequate resources and organisational capacity to effectively and rapidly deliver an expanded and comprehensive response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
