A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Fountain of Saints Outreach (FSO), will commence a malaria preventive programme in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from November 29 which will last till October 26, 2019.

The National Coordinator of FSO, Mr. Duru Obinna, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.

Mr. Obinna said the year-long programme was aimed at eliminating malaria in Nigeria with focus on the North Central.

He said the programme was in collaboration with the FCT Primary Health Care (PHC) and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

“It is in recognition of the menace of malaria on vulnerable groups that a five-year programme on Roll Back Malaria Campaign across North Central Nigeria was initiated.

“We will be attending to children and women, nursing mothers, as well as vulnerable men, by raising medical awareness, blood tests and distributing free malaria drugs,” he said.

“FSO has its focus on the Roll Back Malaria Programme and awareness creation for non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes.(NAN)

“Our mission is to work for the improvement of the plight of the vulnerable, the aged, women and children through information sharing, training, research, education, free medical care and innovative early interventions,’’ Obinna said.

He disclosed that in the last three months 8, 650 people, including children, received free malaria drugs through the programme.
