The women were given the empowerment items at the Relate International annual Christmas carol celebrations and empowerment programme which was held at Merry Makers Centre, Abuja on Saturday.
Convener of Relate International, Barr, Ebuk Ekpo, explained the purpose for the gesture, saying “this is our fifth anniversary and we have empowered about 100 widows. “Today, we have empowered 15.
“At Relate International, we do mentoring and we empower women especially widows. We do mentoring for graduates as well. In this festive period, we empowered the widow and their children. We have given them food. We have given their children, gift packs with books.
“We are giving all the widows cash so that in January their children can go to school. This is the first time we are giving them cash, normally we give them food.”
One of the beneficiaries, Joy Peter, thanked the Relate International team for their support to widows. “Since we met with Relate International, they have organised business seminars were they have taught us business skills and they have mentored us. They have empowered us and they have carried us along. They provide food for us and our children. We are grateful,” she said.
