A non-governmental organisation under the aegis of Abantu for Development, in collaboration with African Women Development Fund and Global Fund for Women, yesterday presented working tools to 20 women.

The women have undergone training in various skills including catering services, bead making, tailoring and shoe and bag making.

 The working tools presented to the beneficiaries included sewing machine, pressing iron, weaving machine, threads, zips, shoe filing machine, shoe frames, different kinds of beads and accessories, oven and baking pans among others.

According to the Programmes Officer of Abantu for Development, Rabiatu Halilu, the women, aged 18-35, were enrolled in different training institutions in August, 2016 for the training. 

The gesture, she said, was aimed at reducing the poverty level among women.

In a presentation titled ‘Women Entrepreneurship Promotion – Towards Achieving Sustainable Development Goals’, Farida Yahya said that closing gender gaps was essential.

She explained that that could be in access to products and services in the water, contraception, telecommunications, energy and child-care sectors which could expand economic activity by $300 billion annually by 2025.

She stressed that closing the gender gap was a fundamental matter of human rights and justice.
