The Gwagwalada Concerned Youth Forum (GCYF), on Saturday offered free HIV/AIDS test and enlightenment for sex workers at Unguwar Dodo, in Gwagwalada metropolis of the council.

Speaking during the event, the project officer, Mr. Ngwakwe Williams, said the group decided to carry out the exercise as part of its activities in commemorating this year’s World HIV/AIDS Day, which was celebrated on December 1.

He said the programme was supported by the US Embassy through the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief, adding that the project was aimed at reminding the sex workers that HIV/AIDS is real, and that early detection will go a long way in saving their lives.

He said there was a global agenda that ensured that those who test positive were placed on drugs.

“The World HIV/AIDS Day is a day we commiserate with people who died as a result of HIV, while we also celebrate those who are living positively with HIV/AIDS,” he said.

Also speaking, the Gwagwalada Area Council head of Department for Health, Dr. Adeyemi Adenero, commended the group for organising  free tests and enlightenment education for sex workers, and called on other residents of the council to always go for HIV test to enable them know their status.
