A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Hope Foundation, has organised a 10-day leadership and skill acquisition training aimed at inspiring teenagers from public and private schools.
The programme, tagged “CITY (Catch and Inspire Them Young) Camp 2016: Leader Arise 2.0” was held at Famaks British International School in Abuja.
The coordinator of the programme, Mr Kenneth Uvah, told Daily Trust in an exclusive interview that the theme of the programme was chosen to make the event more educative and fun.
He said they came up with an idea of summer leadership camp training after they discovered that 65% of the country’s population was teenagers.
Uvah explained that participants would receive training on leadership, personal mastery, academics excellence, national development consciousness, innovative and entrepreneurship and art class among others.
He disclosed that this year, they planned to host 1,000 teenagers for 10 days across the four locations of the country with the involvement of 200 volunteers.
He said they targeted more on public schools because they lacked facilities and had less exposure, adding that it was a character shaping and mind development programme targeted at teenagers in the country.
