An Ogun State-based NGO, Securecycle Environmental and Climate Change Initiative (SECCI), has begun tree planting in public schools and communities in the state.

The founder of the organisation, Emmanuel Kilaso, who disclosed this while speaking with our correspondent, explained that the project which was entitled: “#Trees for Schools”, was aimed at promoting a healthier and more conducive learning environment.

While noting that the intervention would be planting of 100 trees in 10 schools each, he harped that the essence was to mitigate climate change and drive environmental sustainability.

He further said, “This initiative acknowledges the multifaceted challenges posed by the absence of trees in educational institutions such as limited shade, lack of windbreakers and reduced exposure to nature.

“As of now, we have planted the trees in two schools already, and they are Obafemi Owode Primary School 2, Adigbe; and Holy Prophet School 1, Isale-Odo, Ogun. From here we’ll take it to the remaining schools one at a time.”
