The International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH), in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), has provided free medical screening and sanitary kits to Roguwa Community of Uke in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

About 4,000 residents of the community were sensitised on sanitary habits and treated for common ailments like malaria, while children were dewormed and immunised.

Some of the items donated were treated mosquito nets, toilet tissues, toothpaste and tooth brushes, female sanitary materials, among others.

Presenting the items to the Village Head of Roguwa, Mrs. Moji Makanjuola of ISMPH said the exercise was aimed at educating the residents on keeping themselves and their environment clean.

She said, “We are looking at the whole gamut of public health with emphasis on methods of preventing some of the diseases that have continued to ravage our people, particularly at this level. We are hoping that this will further improve their health status; like our demonstration on mosquito nets, and we hope that this will make the people sleep under treated nets. From the findings in the last three days, it is certain that malaria still tops the list of the diseases that ravage the people of this community.”

She, therefore, called for the provision of at least a visiting doctor at the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) at Roguwa and an upgrade of its dispensary.

The Village Head of Roguwa, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, thanked Mrs. Makanjuola for the donation and called on well-meaning Nigerians to extend same gesture to the community.

The Yakanajie of Uke, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi, in 2018, conferred the chieftaincy title of Jakadiyan Uke on Mrs. Makanjuola who adopted Roguwa as her village when she visited the community with some journalists and discovered the challenges of the people in accessing healthcare services.
