A non-governmental organization, Africa Nature Investors (ANI), has  expressed concern over the activities of illegal miners who are gradually taking over the northern part of Gashaka-Gumti National Park located between Adamawa and Taraba states.

The organisation,  however called on both Adamawa and Taraba states state and federal governments to  take an urgent action to flush out of the illegal miners out of the Park.

The Executive Director of ANI, Mr. Morakinyo Tunde, made the call at Toungo while inaugurating Rangers out post who were stationed to fight against illegal miners, poachers loggers in the park.

He said the call became necessary in order not allow the miners and other criminal elements to take control of the Park and pose security challenges to residents of areas located within the Park.

Mr. Morakinyo noted that illegal mining poses a significant challenge to ANI’s core mission of developing and protecting Gashaka-Gumti National Park, aiming to make it a hub of development in Nigeria.

“The northern part of the national park still faces threats ranging from logging, farm encroachment, illegal cattle grazing, and illegal mining,” he said.
