A non-governmental organisation, Soroptimist International has called for better welfare for female inmates serving prison terms in custodial centres across the country.
President of the Gwarimpa branch of the organization, Oby Obiekwe, according to a statement issued yesterday, made the call when she led her team on a visit to the Suleja Custodial Centre to interact with female inmates.

Obiekwe, during the visit, requested for list of all female inmates at the centre who require bail or compensation payments in order to regain freedom.
She expressed concerns over the untidy environment of the inmates and stressed the need for the authorities to take action in that regard
Obiekwe said the organisation would look into the various cases with a view to paying off cases found to be with merit.
Head of the facility, Ali D. Ali, while receiving the team, said the Suleja Custodial Centre has a total of 605 inmates with 39 females and 566 males.
The organization during the visit donated items such as Dettol, tissue paper, mats, rubber slippers, blankets, toothbrushes, torchlights, sachet water, garri and Indomie noodles.
