Women have been encouraged to actively participate during the forthcoming elections by voting candidates of their choice.

The Executive Director, Legal Awareness for Nigerian Women, Mrs. Rebecca Sako John, made the call at a one-day sensitization programme organised in Kafanchan for stakeholders in Zone III, ahead of  next month’s general elections.

She explained that allowing men to decide who their spouses vote for was in itself violence against women.

The executive director pointed out that the aim of the programme was to seek the support and commitment of traditional, religious, youth and women groups to scale up the campaign to stop violence against women in politics at the grass root as well as to encourage the public especially women on the need to go out to vote.

While enlightening participants on their level of preparedness for hitch free elections, the representatives of INEC and the Nigerian Police Force, assured of a free,  fair and violence free elections.

They, however, solicited the support and cooperation of the public before, during and after the elections to achieve the set objectives.
