Africa Nature investment (ANI) an NGO, has supported 140 women in Gashaka local government area of Taraba with N30 million interest free loan.
The loan is being use as working capital for the women who are into Gari processing Shea butter processing, shoes making and Bee keeping.
The women groups are located in Serti and MayoSelbe and the loan is utilize by the women as working capital on revolving basis.
Leader of one of the group in MayoSelbe,Hassan Musa,said in an interview that it was the Africa Nature investment that organized the women groups into a multi purpose cooperative groups.
She explained that there are four multi purpose groups with forty women each in the town
She said each member of the group are into saving from what they are gaining from their business activities.
According to her, part of the saving is given to members who have less capital as revolving loan payable with a short period of time
She said default in payment of loan was not recorded because the women are making good business as there are buyers of Gari coming from different part of the country all the time.
Hassana Musa, explained that some of members of the group are into cassava farming while others buy cassava from farmers which the main raw materials for Gari processing .
She said two type of Gari is produce by the women group that include Red and White Gari and there is a ready market all the year round.
” There is always a ready market for our product because now many homes consume gari on daily basis and we are requesting ANI to provide us with more loan to purchase modern gari processing Machine to make our work easier” she said.
Mr David Peter ANI community liaison manager,said the thirty million interest free loan given to the women groups was part of organization’s social responsibility. for the community especially women groups.
He said ANI as non governmental organization working at Gashaka National park identified the needs of women in the area which is working capital.
He said women in the area are hardworking and needed capital to boast their business activities and that was why the interest free loan was provided to women group.
David Peter,stated that apart from women group who are into Gari processing there are other who are into Shea butter processing and shoes making business in Serti town that are benefiting from the interest free loan provided by ANI.
