A non-governmental organisation, the New Dawn for Women and Community Intervention Initiative (NEWOMCII), has unveiled plans to empower women and youth, tackle grassroots poverty and promote sustainable development nationwide ahead of its official launch on April 28.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the founder and chairman of NEWOMCII, Alhaji Bolaji Raji, said the initiative was established to bridge critical gaps in access to opportunities for women and young people, particularly at the grassroots.

He noted that the organisation emerged from months of strategic engagement and ongoing community interventions.

“Today marks a significant moment for us at NEWOMCII. Across our communities, especially at the grassroots, many women and young people possess immense potential but lack access to the tools, opportunities and support systems needed to succeed,” he said.

He added that the organisation was committed to complementing government efforts by providing practical, impact-driven programmes.

“At the heart of our work is a strong belief that when women are empowered, families thrive and communities progress,” he said.

Raji stressed that NEWOMCII was focused on delivering demand-driven initiatives in agribusiness, arts and creative enterprises, skills development and community interventions.

He also underscored the importance of partnerships, calling on government, private sector actors, development organisations and the media to collaborate with the initiative.

The deputy national coordinator of NEWOMCII, Ms Heather-Ronke Akanni, described the forthcoming launch as more than a ceremonial event, noting that it would highlight the role of the civil society in supporting economic development.

Akanni revealed that within less than a year, the organisation had carried out interventions, including the donation of agribusiness processing equipment to women and youth in Kuchiko community in Bwari Area Council, and support for arts and crafts clusters in Karu and Giri.

In her welcome address, the national coordinator, Hajiya Sa’adatu Bokan Adamu, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to grassroots impact.

“NEWOMCII is dedicated to strengthening women and uplifting communities through practical, community-driven interventions focused on agribusiness, arts and crafts, youth empowerment and livelihood support,” she said.
