NGO to empower 2,000 women in rice processing

An NGO, Search For Common Nigeria with Support From United Nations Women and Government of Japan, said it is ready to empower a total of 2,000 women through rice parboiling techniques processing which aims to boost their income and economic power.

 

State Project Coordinator, Search for Common Ground, Mr Austin Agbanyi stated this in Maiduguri during a 2-day training for stakeholder in Mafa Lga, theme” Protection, Empowerment, and Resilience Building for women in Northeast” (PERD) that the project aims to support women affected by conflict in Borno and Yobe States respectively.

 

“Presently the project is being carried out in Borno and Yobe States, and it has different components, protection, empowerment and right to Justice. The empowerment component will reach 2,000 women in these two states by providing a means of livelihood to the women and grant them access to services and justice through informal and formal judiciary systems.”

 

“When you talk about Empowerment, there are local government area has more displaced persons than Jere and Mafa but we are looking at the of rice parboiling and we found out that Mafa and Jere LGAs are high in rice production. ”
