An NGO, Education as a Vaccine (EVA), said it has trained 341 people as members of the community peace committee to tackle the menace of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against women and girls in Nasarawa State.
EVA’s Executive Director, Mrs Oluwatoyin Chukwudozie, while speaking during a multi-sectoral stakeholders’ summit to mark its 16 days of activism against GBV, said the training would go a long way in addressing GBV in the state.
Daily Trust Saturday reports that the community peace committee members were drawn from Keffi, Karu, Nasarawa and Toto LGAs.
She disclosed that no fewer than 90 persons were arrested in connection with rape cases reported to it and handed over to the police.
Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Nasarawa State, Mrs Rabiyat Addra, called on the state government and other stakeholders to collaborate in tackling GBV in the state.
