A Non-Governmental Organisation, WOMAN AFRICA on Monday organised a training for students of Government Girls Secondary School, Dutse on the use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs).
The Administration Officer of the NGO, Mrs. Adenike Adigun, said the exercise with the theme: "Moving from Humiliation and Exclusion to Participation- Ending Poverty in All its Forms" was part of activities to celebrate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
“We are training them on how to use computer-based programs which will help them check their results online and write computer-based examinations.
“Knowledge is power and that is what we are trying to give to them . Most students today don’t know how to use the computer let alone doing productive things with it but by the time these students go through this training, they will be able to use the computer very well,” she said.
Addressing the students during the exercise, the Programmes Officer of Paulash Community Development Initiative, Charity Anaja, said the only way to eradicate poverty in Nigeria was to educate the girl child.
While noting that women’s relevance shouldn’t be limited to the kitchen, she said the girl child must be given the opportunity to excel just as their male counterparts.
“Shun vices but pursue your dreams", she charged the girls. "Women bear the pain of exclusion and rejection more in the society, so stand up and make a difference."
A total of 50 students participated in the one-day training exercise.
