NGO trains nutrition officers in breastfeeding

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Alive and Thrive Initiative (FHI360), has trained nutrition and health educators in exclusive breastfeeding processes and 1,000 days babies’ effective care to help strengthen nutritional values and address malnutrition effects.

 The training workshop, which took place in Kano, drew participants from 14 LGAs in Kano, with two persons per LGA.

 Speaking during the training, the state’s Team Leader, Dr Ashiru Hamza Muhammed, said the programme was towards accelerating the skills on maternal infant and young child nutrition in the country, noting that the place of nutrition was vital, especially in improving human capital development.

On his part, the Nutrition Coordinator of the state’s Primary Healthcare Board, Murtala Muhammad Inuwa, said the state government was making effort to ensure that the health educators were given enough training to help cushion the effects of malnutrition.
