NGO urges communities to seek good governance in UBE

In a one-day forum on strengthening advocacy on civic engagement, in Abuja, for Karimo and Idu communities, Dr. Yewande Alola, the convener, said there was need to strengthen the role of the community towards achieving the goal of UBE in various communities.
Alola said the aim of the project was to achieve increase in enrolment into schools and sensitise the communities on the provisions of UBE.
She identified ignorance and non access to information as the twin problems hindering the role of the community towards UBE goal, saying: “The major challenge of assessing UBE is lack of information, they don’t know what UBE entails, and when you don’t have information, you don’t have the power to do anything.”
She said the group will train stakeholders in the communities’ to aid them make demands, using the best peaceful approach.
Speaking on the role of the community in UBE, Dr. Emeka Azubuike said the communities needed to know the role of the local government authority in achieving UBE goal and how to demand for accountability.
