The programme includes free laboratory test for military personnel and their families, treatment of diagnosed ailment including provision of optometry services and referral to bigger hospitals for case that cannot be dealt with immediately.
Founder of the Cry for Help non-governmental organisation Vera Mensah while conducting newsmen round at the Mambilla Barracks Hospital in Abuja on Sunday said that the programme was meant to support the Nigerian government toward having a healthy citizenry.
She said: “We are collaborating with Good Health for all Nigerians Initiative to provide free medical care in all the barracks in Nigeria. As you can see, this goes beyond giving rice to people. Good health gives birth to healthy nation.
“It covers all aspects of medicine including dental care, eye treatment, minor surgery, general medicine.”
The Cry for Help founder also explained that 2000 doctors and other medical workers will participate in the project.
“We have got lab scientists and doctors on grounds who are attending to the needs of all the patients. Any surgery that cannot be done here, we refer them to bigger hospital,” she said.
“It will take about three months because we are going to go through all the barracks,” she said.
Secretary General of the Good Health for all Nigerians Initiative (GHFANI) Afred Sanni, explained that the project which is expected to go round the 36 states of the country in the coming months took off from the barracks to support and boost the morale of the Nigerian military and their families in the fight against insurgency in the north east.
