The Programme Manager/ Co-ordinator for the Society for Orphans Welfare (SOW), Habibat  Adeoti  Olatunji made the call when the group visited the children’s ward of the Lagos General Hospital recently to donate chairs, tables, laundry baskets, bedsheets, toys and food items as part of its activities for this year’s Children’s Day celebration.
She disclosed that SOW whose activities revolve around the social well being of youths in the Nigerian society, is a charitable organization with the objectives to care for orphans and vulnerable youths, especially their educational and social needs through various projects and initiatives.
According to her, for 2010 and 2011 Children’s Day, the society donated money and food items to the Children of the SOS Village in Isolo, Lagos State while the Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice was visited in 2013 and some food items donated to the home.
She said, “It is also the society’s way of putting smiles on the face of the children, who are the future leaders, and giving them a sense of belonging, thereby making them realize their importance in the future of the country.
“The officials of the society were received by the representative of General Hospital Management and Matron of the Children Ward of the Lagos General Hospital, Mrs.  Adekoya.”
She added that similar efforts by different NGOs will complement the efforts of Government at making the health sector better through its various interventions.
She stated that though government was doing its best to provide a worldclass health care delivery for the citizenry, the objectives cannot be realized without the support of the private sector through various interventions and corporate social responsibility programmes from individuals, societies and corporate organizations that are similar to that of Society for Orphan Welfare.
