The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) has called on the federal and Kogi state governments to partner with the institute  to ensure the restoration and preservation of all architectural artecfacts/monuments in Lokoja.
 National President of NIA, Arc. Tonye Oliver Braide, who spoke in Lokoja during the 2016 World Architecture Day Conference, described Lokoja as a city with “strong historical antecedents and high tourism potential” yet to be harnessed.
 He observed that historical/colonial relics that adorn Lokoja such as the tombs of emirs deposed and exiled by the colonial masters, the Lord Lugard rest House, the first primary school in northern Nigeria and the European/British soldiers’ cemeteries, amongst others could be fully developed for tourism purposes.
