The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Thursday denied planning to arrest its former acting Director-General, Mohammed Dauda.

It was reacting to a letter by Dauda through his lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), alleging plans to arrest him.

Agabi’s letter to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, dated January 8, 2022, was copied to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the NIA, the DSS and the Inspector-General of Police.

Counsel to NIA, Wale Adesokan (SAN), said it was unethical to write to Malami and others without copying the lawyers to the agency.

He said the suit Dauda instituted at the National Industrial Court, whose judgment of October 2020 the NIA had appealed, merely challenged his dismissal from NIA and not his removal as acting DG.

“Finally, it’s unthinkable that our clients who are the appellants in the pending appeals will be the ones taking steps or doing any act calculated at undermining or compromising their own appeals,” he said.
